The Global AI Index

Working alongside leading AI researchers, the paper introduces the Global AI Index: the first framework of its kind to evaluate 62 countries across 143 indicators, providing a holistic view of what the authors call "AI Sovereignty." The study's central finding is that national AI success is not driven by any single factor. It emerges from the interplay of three forces: the ability to integrate AI into the workforce, public services, and physical infrastructure; the strength of the academic ecosystem and the velocity of local research; and the flow of both public and private capital into the local AI economy. Understanding how these forces interact — and where each country sits across all three — is what the Global AI Index makes possible for the first time.
