Saurabh opened with a proposition that cuts across disciplines: "Civilizations are built on knowledge systems." Indian heritage, he argued, does not reside solely in formal institutions or archives. It lives in villages, in festivals, in artisans' workshops, and in the texture of everyday traditions. Culture, in this framing, is not simply history. It is the living pulse of society.
The distinction matters. If culture is living and distributed, the challenge is not preservation alone — it is connection and activation.
The Knowledge Grid
Central to Saurabh's remarks was the concept of the Knowledge Grid: the foundation of a national cultural intelligence system for India. The proposal calls for structurally connecting the country's diverse knowledge ecosystems, creating the infrastructure for cultural capital to support creative industries, tourism, and local economies at scale. The panel was moderated by Sanjoy Roy and included panelists Ratnesh Mathur, Eric Chopra, and Dr. Ritu Sethi. The session followed remarks by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, situating the conversation directly within national policy priorities.
